“Is Superman the first hero? Discover why Hanuman is the original superhero archetype, from ‘God-tier’ stats to the Ashta Siddhis. The Vayuputra legacy.” ๐ ๐ฉ⚡
"This is the English Edition of my thoughts on the original superhero. Since I am sharing my excitement about these legends, please excuse any minor errors in my English. My goal is to share the 'Power' and 'Soul' of Hanuman with the world! Hope you enjoyed the ride. ๐๐ฉ✨"
Beyond Marvel & DC: The Eternal Power of Hanuman
Today, the whole world agrees — from Wikipedia and Times of India to Britannica — that Hanuman is the wo
rld’s first and original superhero! ๐๐ฉ
It is a matter of immense pride that thousands of years before the arrival of Superman or Batman, Indian Puranas featured a character with such unparalleled power. Even the story of the Monkey King in the globally hit game ‘Black Myth: Wukong’ is said to be inspired by Lord Hanuman.

Long Before Marvel & DC:
Centuries before Stan Lee was born or DC Comics even existed, there was someone flying across the ocean while carrying an entire mountain! Someone who set Lanka ablaze with his flaming tail. These are not just stories — these are ‘Hero Entries’ that are way more ‘Mass’ than anything you see in today’s cinema! ๐️๐ฅ✈️
Let’s look at this line by line: ๐
(The Guinness World Records Logic)
๐ Don’t be discouraged when you see the records. There is a small ‘Logic’ behind that word “First,” and we are going to Debug it right now:
. The “Comic Book” Superhero ๐๐จ
The Guinness World Record specifically says “First Comic Book Superhero.” This means the first superhero to be drawn on paper, printed as a book, and sold commercially. In that technical sense, they are right — because ‘Action Comics #1’ (Superman) was released in 1938.
. Mythological vs. Commercial ๐️⚡
Superman is a Commercial Character (created for profit and entertainment). However, our Hanuman is a Mythological Hero. While Superman exists in the pages of a 20th-century comic, Hanuman has existed in our hearts and culture for millennia.
The Reality Check: ๐
Link: First Superhero with Superpowers
Superman (1938): Just 88 years old. ๐ถ
Hanuman (Treta Yuga): Thousands of years old. ๐ก️๐ฉ
If you look closely at the Guinness Record, you’ll realize that the powers given to Superman — Invulnerability, Speed, and Strength — were already possessed by our Hanuman eons ago. While Superman was running faster than a speeding train, Hanuman was already flying faster than the wind itself! ✈️⚡
Did They Copy the Idea? ๐ง ๐
The creators of Superman claim they drew inspiration from Friedrich Nietzsche’s concept of the “รbermensch” (Super Man). But if you study ancient civilizations, you’ll see that the Original Source Code for the idea of a ‘Super Power’ lies in Bharat (India). ๐๐ก️
Getting into the Guinness Book doesn’t make someone the “first.” They only record Recorded Modern History. ๐ When Hanuman’s powers were being depicted in our ancient palm-leaf manuscripts and stone sculptures, the country called America didn’t even exist! ⚔️๐ฉ
“Long before Superman was born, we had a hero who could fly and carry mountains on his palm!” ๐ช๐⚡
Update Version: Superman is just a ‘Lite Version’ of Hanuman. ๐ค
The Original Source Code: ๐๐ก️
The ‘Original Code’ for flying, expanding or shrinking one’s size, and crushing enemies has existed in our Puranas for millennia. Today’s popular superheroes are essentially just the same concepts, but copied and repackaged in a new suit!
The Pride of Bharat (India’s Legacy) ๐ฉ⚔️
As I said, this should make our blood boil with pride. While Hollywood spends billions creating the ‘Avengers’ to rule the world, the original ‘Prototype’ was with us all along! ๐ก️๐ป
“Superman was born in 1938, but Hanuman has been here for ages. Therefore, the world’s number one superhero is our very own Vayuputra!” ๐⚡
The King of Superpowers (God-Tier Stats) ๐⚡
Thousands of years before Superman and Batman, Hanuman displayed these legendary powers:
Immense Strength: The power to leap across the ocean and fly while lifting the entire Sanjeevani Mountain in his palm. ⛰️✈️
Shape-shifting (Scale Transformation): The ability to shrink his body to the size of an atom or grow as large as the sky itself. ๐๐งฌ
Near-Invulnerability: He cannot be destroyed by weapons or fire. He is truly indestructible. ๐ก️๐ฅ
Brain + Power (The All-Rounder Logic) ๐ง ๐ช
While Superman mostly relies on ‘Muscle Power,’ Hanuman uses his intellect just as much. He is a master of music, grammar, and science. This is exactly why articles online describe him as a “Consummate All-rounder.” He isn’t just a warrior; he is a scholar. ๐๐
Hercules vs. Hanuman: The Real Difference ⚔️๐️
Look at the facts: Hercules is a ‘Demi-god,’ which means he is Mortal. But Hanuman is Immortal. While Western mythology celebrates Hercules for killing a lion, Hanuman’s feat of leaping toward the Sun to capture it is something they can’t even imagine! ☀️๐ก️
Superhuman Powers ⚡
Every ‘power’ we see in today’s superheroes was already part of Lord Hanuman’s arsenal:
Flight: He flew across the vast ocean to Lanka long before the concept of an airplane even existed. ✈️
Shape-shifting: The ability to grow into a cosmic form (Vishwaroopa) or shrink to the size of a tiny fly. ๐๐งฌ
Immense Strength: When he couldn’t identify the Sanjeevani herb, he simply lifted the entire mountain and flew back with it! ๐️
Immortality (Chiranjivi): Lord Hanuman is beyond death; he is eternal. ๐ก️๐ฅ
Superman vs. Hanuman ๐ฆธ♂️⚔️๐
As Google results show, Superman arrived in 1938. But Lord Hanuman has been part of our consciousness since the era of the Ramayana. While the world marvels at Superman’s strength, we have always had a hero who performed even greater feats eons ago. Today, even Western scholars admit that Hanuman is the “Archetype” — the ultimate blueprint and role model for every superhero that followed.
We can look at this from two perspectives:
Faith (Devotion): For billions, Hanuman is not just a character; he is a God — a symbol of supreme devotion and strength. For many, the events of the Ramayana are sacred history. ๐️
In short: Whether you view him through faith or as an ancient epic, there is no debate — Hanuman is the World’s Oldest Superhero Archetype. ๐
He was showing his ‘Mass’ power ages before these ‘modern kids’ (Superman & Co.) were even a thought. Compared to Hanuman’s god-tier stats, today’s superheroes are just beginners! ๐
Just Imagine This: ๐ญ๐
Superman can fly, but while flying, Hanuman can grow as large as a mountain (Mahima) or shrink to the size of a tiny fly (Anima) mid-air! ๐๐งฌ
The Hulk has incredible strength, but when it comes to lifting an entire mountain and flying across the sky with it, no one beats Hanuman. ๐️✈️
The Flash is fast, but Hanuman saw the Sun, thought it was a ripe fruit, and sprinted through space to catch it! ☀️๐♂️
This is why we call him the “Original Superhero.” Compared to him, everyone else is just a kid!
Think about it — we can’t even step outside in the afternoon heat here, but as a baby, he flew straight at the Sun to swallow it! ๐ฅต
The Sun Incident: Key Takeaways ☀️๐
According to the Puranas, right after his birth, baby Hanuman was hungry. He saw the Sun in the sky, mistook it for a ripe golden fruit (mango), and flew toward it.
Notice these incredible feats:
Extreme Speed: Baby Hanuman reached the Sun — millions of kilometers away from Earth — in mere minutes! ๐⚡
Invulnerability: Despite the scorching heat of the Sun, nothing happened to him. In modern terms, we call this ‘Invulnerability’ (the state of being indestructible). ๐ก️๐ฅ
Indra’s Intervention: Fearing the world would go dark if the Sun were swallowed, Lord Indra had to intervene with his ultimate weapon, the Vajra, to stop him.
Doesn’t it feel like today’s Avengers are just ‘simple’ compared to Hanuman? ๐
The Hollywood Connection: Copy-Paste or Inspiration? ๐
While we can’t explicitly say they “stole” the ideas, it is crystal clear that the superpowers found in our Puranas served as the original inspiration for many Hollywood heroes.
Check out these striking parallels:
Ant-Man vs. Hanuman: Ant-Man’s power to grow massive or shrink to a tiny size is exactly what Hanuman does with Mahima and Anima. The only difference? Hanuman doesn’t need a high-tech suit or Pym particles to do it! ๐๐งฌ
Thor vs. Hanuman: Thor has his hammer (Mjolnir), but Hanuman has the most powerful Gada (mace) the world has ever seen. Both have mastery over the wind and the elements. ๐จ⚡
Superman vs. Hanuman: Flight, superhuman strength, and an indestructible body — Hanuman showcased all of these thousands of years ago.
Hollywood simply takes these ancient concepts and repackages them with massive budgets and special effects. If you dive into our Puranas, you’ll find a treasure trove of superhero archetypes. ๐๐ฌ
The King of Skills: The Eight Siddhis (Ashta Siddhis) ๐⚡
Lord Hanuman’s abilities aren’t just “powers” — they are divine masteries known as the Ashta Siddhis. These eight skills will leave you stunned:
Anima: The ability to shrink the body to a size smaller than an ant. ๐
Mahima: The power to grow larger than the tallest mountain. ๐️
Garima: The ability to become infinitely heavy (this is why even the mighty Bhima couldn’t lift Hanuman’s tail!). ๐️♂️
Laghima: The power to become as light as a feather. ๐ชถ
Prapti: The ability to reach anywhere instantly without any obstacles. ๐
Prakamya: The power to achieve any desire and survive in extreme conditions, like living underwater or without air. ๐๐ฌ️
Ishitva: Divine lordship and control over nature and all living beings. ๐ฑ
Vashitva: The power to influence and control anyone. ✨
Beyond all this, he is a Chiranjivi (Immortal) — he is beyond death and is believed to be living among us even today.
The most incredible part? Despite possessing all these god-tier powers, he remained a humble devotee of Lord Ram, choosing service over ego. That is the true mark of a hero. ๐๐ก️
The Power of the Gada (The Ultimate Weapon) ๐จ๐ฅ
Lord Hanuman’s weapon, the Gada (often described in texts as an indestructible divine mace), is more powerful than any modern-day gadget. Here are its ‘God-tier’ stats:
Indestructible: Gifted by Lord Vayu (the Wind God), this Gada cannot be damaged or broken by anything on Earth. ๐ก️
Infinite Weight: Hanuman can increase the weight of his Gada at will. It can become so heavy that enemies cannot even move it, let alone lift it! ๐️♂️⛰️
Mantra-Powered: This is not just a physical weapon; it is controlled by Hanuman’s spiritual power and mantras, making it a sentient, divine force. ✨๐
Has Anyone Ever Defeated Hanuman? ๐ค
Truth be told, no one can defeat Hanuman in battle! However, let’s look at a few legendary instances where it might have seemed like a setback, but was actually a choice:
The Brahmastra: In Lanka, Meghnad (Indrajit) launched the ultimate weapon, the Brahmastra, at Hanuman. Hanuman had the power to break it, but out of immense respect for Lord Brahma (the creator), he chose to let himself be captured. This wasn’t a defeat — it was a display of his divine humility. ๐น๐
Bhima and Hanuman: In the Mahabharata, the mighty Bhima tried to move Hanuman’s tail but failed miserably. Hanuman remained undefeated even in his old age. ๐ช
Shani Dev (Saturn): Even the dreaded effects of Shani Dev couldn’t touch Hanuman. In the end, Shani Dev himself had to surrender to Hanuman’s might! ๐ช⚔️
In short: Hanuman only “loses” if he chooses to, usually to show his devotion or to teach someone a lesson in humility. ๐ฆ
More Than Just Muscle: Intelligence & Devotion ๐ง ๐
While most modern superheroes have raw power but lack wisdom, Lord Hanuman is the complete package:
He is incredibly intelligent and a master strategist.
He is a renowned scholar of grammar, science, and the arts.
Despite his infinite power, he never used it for ego. He dedicated his entire existence to the service of Lord Ram.

The Divine Origin: The 11th Avatar of Shiva ๐ฑ๐ฅ
Have you ever heard the story of how Hanuman became the Rudra Avatar of Lord Shiva? ๐ง It is a fascinating tale that shows the deep bond between Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva.
The Story Goes Like This: ✨
The Energy of Shiva: Once, when Lord Vishnu took the form of Mohini, Lord Shiva was so captivated by that divine form that his immense energy (Tejas) was released. Lord Vayu (the Wind God) captured this divine energy. ๐ช️
Anjana’s Penance: At that time, a Vanara woman named Anjana was performing intense penance to Lord Vayu to be blessed with a son. Lord Vayu placed this divine energy of Shiva into Anjana’s womb. ๐คฐ
The Birth of Rudra: Thus, Hanuman was born as the son of Anjana and Lord Vayu, carrying the essence of Shiva himself. He is revered as the 11th Rudra Avatar of Lord Shiva. ๐ฑ
Why did Shiva incarnate as Hanuman? ๐ค
When Lord Vishnu took birth as Rama, Lord Shiva wanted to be by his side to assist him. However, Shiva didn’t want to come as a God, but as a humble servant (Dasa). He chose the form of Hanuman to serve Rama with absolute devotion. This is why Hanuman is celebrated as ‘Ramadasa’ (The Servant of Ram). ๐ฉ
When you hear this origin story, it becomes clear — the secret behind Hanuman’s infinite power is Lord Shiva himself! ๐ช๐ฅ
The Battle for the Sun! ๐๐ฅ
The story continues like this:
Rahu’s Complaint: It was the time of a solar eclipse. Rahu (the celestial entity that causes eclipses) was approaching the Sun, only to see a tiny child racing toward it even faster than him! Terrified, Rahu fled and complained to Lord Indra. ๐♂️๐จ
Indra’s Vajra: Lord Indra arrived on his divine white elephant, Airavata, to stop the child. But little Hanuman saw the giant elephant as a toy and tried to catch it! Panicking, Indra struck Hanuman with his ultimate weapon — the Vajra (Thunderbolt). ⚡
The Injury to the Jaw: The Vajra hit Hanuman’s left jaw (Hanu), and the child fell unconscious. ๐ค
Vayu’s Wrath: Seeing his son injured, Lord Vayu (the Wind God) became furious and stopped the flow of air across the entire universe! As every living being began to suffocate, the Gods rushed to intervene. ๐ช️๐ซ
A Rain of Divine Boons (The Ultimate Buffs) ⛈️๐
To appease Vayu and revive the child, each God granted Hanuman a unique power:
Lord Brahma: Decreed that no weapon could ever kill Hanuman. ๐ก️
Lord Indra: Declared that even the Vajra would never again harm him. ⚡
Lord Varuna: Granted him protection from any danger involving water. ๐
The name ‘Hanuman’ actually comes from the word ‘Hanu’ (meaning jaw). Because the Vajra hit his jaw and left a mark, he became known as Hanuman. ๐ต✨ Talk about a ‘Blessing in Disguise’, right? ๐
Why the Sun Didn’t Burn Him? ๐ฅ๐ก️
Despite the extreme heat, Hanuman remained untouched for two major reasons:
Agni’s Blessing: At birth, Lord Agni (the Fire God) gave him a boon — “Fire shall never burn Hanuman.” This is why neither the Sun’s heat nor the burning city of Lanka could touch him. ๐ฅ๐ก️
The Sun as a Guru: Lord Surya (the Sun God) is considered Hanuman’s teacher. Realizing the child was the son of Vayu, Surya moderated his heat to protect him.
Did He Actually Swallow the Sun? ☀️๐ฎ
Well, he almost did! Hanuman was just seconds away from popping the Sun into his mouth when Indra struck him with the Vajra. Hanuman fell unconscious, preventing a total solar ‘snack.’ If he had succeeded, the entire universe would have plunged into eternal darkness! ๐๐
But you’ve got to admire the ‘Guts’ of that child — to sprint millions of miles just because he was hungry and saw a ‘giant fruit’ in the sky. No one else has that kind of energy! ๐
What If He Had Succeeded? ๐ฑ
If Hanuman had actually swallowed the Sun, the ‘Game Over’ screen would have flashed for the entire world:
Total Darkness: Photosynthesis would stop, plants would die, and life on Earth would cease to exist. ๐๐ฑ
The Fall of the Gods: The Sun is the source of cosmic energy. Without it, the celestial balance would break, and the Gods would lose their power. This is why Indra rushed in so desperately! ⚡๐ฑ
Time Would Freeze: Without the Sun, there is no day or night. The cycle of time itself would have stalled! ⏳๐ซ
But remember, Hanuman didn’t do this to cause harm; it was pure, innocent mischief. He was just a kid excited about getting a giant, sweet, golden mango! ๐๐♂️
The Birth of the Invincible Hero ๐๐จ
After the Sun incident, the boons given by the Gods turned that mischievous child into an Invincible Warrior (one who can never be defeated). With the power of all the Gods in his pocket, he feared absolutely no one! ๐๐ฅ
The Curse of Forgetfulness ๐ค๐
As a child, Hanuman’s mischief knew no bounds. He would visit the hermitages of sages in the forest, toss their ritual items, disrupt their meditation, and even pull their beards! Since he was the Son of the Wind God, no one could stop him. Finally, the frustrated sages placed a unique curse on him:
“Since you are so proud of your power, you shall forget all your divine strengths until someone reminds you of them when they are truly needed!”
The Awakening: Who Reminded Him? ๐ฆ๐ฅ
Years later, during the search for Sita Devi, the Vanara army reached the shore of the vast ocean. Everyone was demoralized, thinking no one could leap the 100 Yojanas to reach Lanka. Even Hanuman sat there, sad and silent, having no memory of his own god-tier stats. ๐
That’s when Jambavan, the wise elder of the army, walked up to him and began narrating his past: “You are the Son of the Wind! You once leaped to catch the Sun! There is nothing impossible for you!”
As Jambavan spoke, he awakened the ‘Sleeping Lion’ within Hanuman. Suddenly, Hanuman began to grow as massive as a mountain and prepared for that legendary leap to Lanka! ๐
The Lesson: Even if we have immense talent, sometimes we need a ‘Jambavan’ in our lives to remind us of what we are truly capable of.
The Ultimate ‘Mass’ Scenes in Lanka ๐ฅ๐
Hanuman’s entry into Lanka was like a high-octane action movie! After finding Sita Devi, he wanted to scout Lanka’s defenses and face Ravana directly. So, he intentionally destroyed Ravana’s favorite garden (Ashoka Vatika). After defeating Ravana’s soldiers and his son Akshakumara, Hanuman finally entered the royal court.
The Throne of Tail: Ravana refused to give Hanuman a seat. Without missing a beat, Hanuman coiled his long tail higher and higher until it surpassed the height of Ravana’s own throne, and sat comfortably on top! This absolutely triggered Ravana. ๐๐
Ravana’s Punishment: Since Vibhishana advised that a messenger shouldn’t be killed, Ravana ordered his soldiers to set Hanuman’s tail on fire, thinking that a monkey’s tail is his greatest pride. ๐๐ฅ
The Burning of Lanka (Lanka Dahanam) ๐ฅ๐
When Ravana’s soldiers set fire to his tail, Hanuman simply shrank his body, escaped his bonds, and then the real show began! He leaped from one golden skyscraper to another, setting the entire city of Lanka ablaze.
The Miracle: While the whole city turned to ash, the fire didn’t even singe Hanuman’s tail, nor did it touch the grove where Sita Devi was kept. ๐ฅ After reducing Ravana’s pride to smoke, Hanuman coolly leaped back across the ocean to Lord Ram.
This single act shattered Ravana’s confidence. The people of Lanka started whispering: “If Ram’s messenger is this powerful, imagine the power of Ram himself!” ๐ก️๐น
The Ultimate ‘Mass’ Move: Lifting the Mountain ๐️๐ช
This scene is the peak of superhero greatness! During the final battle, Lakshmana was struck by Indrajit’s lethal weapon and fell unconscious. The only cure was the Sanjeevani herb, found on the Dronagiri Mountain in the Himalayas, and it had to be brought before sunrise.
Here is where Hanuman showed his ‘God-Level’ power:
The Confusion: Hanuman flew to the Himalayas at lightning speed. But once there, he got confused — there were thousands of medicinal plants! Which one was the Sanjeevani? ๐ฟ❓
Lifting the Whole Mountain: Time was running out. Instead of wasting minutes searching, Hanuman used his Mahima Siddhi, grew as large as the sky, and literally ripped the entire Dronagiri Mountain from its roots! ๐️๐ฎ
Stopping the Sun: On his way back, the Sun began to rise. Some legends say Hanuman told the Sun not to rise until Lakshmana was safe. When the Sun didn’t listen, Hanuman simply tucked the Sun under his arm to stop the day from breaking! ☀️๐ซ
The Revival: Hanuman landed in Lanka with the entire mountain on his palm. The mere scent of the Sanjeevani herbs revived Lakshmana, who stood up stronger than ever!
Lifting a whole mountain because you couldn’t find one small leaf — that is the kind of ‘Overpowered’ (OP) energy that inspired every superhero movie you see today! ๐ No Hollywood movie has ever shown a power move as emotional and massive as this. ๐ฉ
The Ultimate Test of Devotion: The Heart of a Hero ❤️๐ฅ
After Lord Ram’s coronation, rewards were being distributed to everyone. Sita Devi took a priceless pearl necklace from her neck and gifted it to Hanuman. ๐
To everyone’s surprise, Hanuman began biting and breaking each pearl one by one! People started laughing and mocking him: “He might be a great warrior, but he’s just a monkey who doesn’t know the value of diamonds!”
Hanuman calmly replied: “What use are these pearls to me if they don’t contain the name of Ram? I want nothing that doesn’t have my Lord in it!” ✋
A courtier challenged him: “If that’s the case, is Ram inside your body too?”
Without a second thought, Hanuman ripped open his own chest with his bare hands! ๐ฒ The entire court gasped in awe. Inside Hanuman’s heart, they saw the glowing, divine figures of Lord Ram and Sita Devi! ❤️๐ฅ
Ram rushed forward and embraced Hanuman. It was the moment the world realized that Hanuman’s strength comes from his absolute, unbreakable devotion.
The Verdict: Hanuman vs. The Avengers ๐ก️⚔️
Let’s be real — even if the entire Avengers squad came and hit him at once, they wouldn’t even be able to touch a single hair on Hanuman’s body! ๐
The truth is, the ‘Mass’ and emotion found in Hanuman’s legends are far greater than anything Hollywood produces today.
The Power Gap: The Hulk might throw a car when he’s angry, but Hanuman lifts an entire mountain and flies through the clouds! ๐️
The Speed Gap: Superman is fast, but Hanuman sprints across the solar system to catch the Sun itself. ☀️๐♂️
The Source Code: Being the Son of the Wind (Vayuputra), no physical obstacle can stop him. He doesn’t need gadgets; his power is divine and infinite.
